honestly what a fucking iconic response. obviously “hello my name is inigo montoya” is the fucking ultimate but we were all building up this confrontation, this fight, this moment right there alongside inigo who had been doing so for 20 (twenty) fucking years ~and in all that time did he ever think the count would just run away? ha lol no~ but then the count just fucking runs away. and yes it’s a moment of perfect comedic delivery/timing, but it’s also a classic moment of subversion in this movie that is so close to being perfect if not for westley’s shitty moustache (kudos to buttercup for still loving him even after she saw that). this film dances so delicately with fulfilling and subverting tropes and it’s moments like this that just exemplifies that
It’s also a super reasonable move. Count Rugen just watched this guy kill like four guys so fast the first hadn’t finished falling down when the last one was stabbed. This dude is no joke, and now he’s like “Oh also this isn’t about the king, I’m specifically here to kill YOU” and here the Count is in just some random hallway and Inigo has a huge guy behind him as backup and… yeah, absolutely not. Fucking run.
And I think that’s a big part of what makes it so funny, it’s not just that he’s subverting your expectations it’s that this is legitimately also the smart thing to do.

I spent so much of my life romanticizing the Great and Powerful Enormity of the Sea, reading about the salt and the sweat of the sailors straining to haul the sails or anchor while dreading the monsters in the cold, icy deep fathoms below…and now you tell me that a fathom is only 6 feet deep -
Six feet is still more than enough for a grave.
Hi, that is the most metal addition you could have possibly made to this post
Going a bit insane thinking about how everyone refers to Jinx as Silco’s daughter, but not once had she ever call him dad
never before have I appreciated just how weird a day Scar was having in episodes 21-23/chapters 45-48
- he is, unknowingly, being used to draw out the homunculi
- idk if he noticed but Ed was actively sticking close enough during the fight to make sure Scar wouldn’t be shot, while also trying to avoid dying himself
- Ed starts yelling at him about the murder of the Doctors Rockbell, which he has no reason to know about as far as Scar’s concerned and then oop–
- this random girl shows up, and it turns out she’s the daughter of the Rockbells?? also she has a breakdown and almost shoots him and he’s like well dang, master was right about revenge breeding revenge
- Ed defends Winry/stops her from shooting Scar, and Scar remembers his brother protecting him in Ishval. deja vu, but this time he’s the destroyer. how the tables have tabled. what has he become
- fighting Ed and Al at the train yard, and that Huge Weird Undying Guy Who Attacked Him In The Sewers drops out of the sky and tries to eat him.
- Ling Yao, who he has never seen or even heard of but the Elrics seem to know him, bursts out of a manhole with a sword in his mouth, stuffs a grenade down Gluttony’s throat and explodes him, ties him up in steel cables, and calls him a homunculus of all things. all of this with ease.
- Scar has no idea what’s going on at this point, and he barely has time to process before–
- Riza Hawkeye pulls up (in disguise, driving a fancy car) and shoots him in the leg, grabs Ling and Gluttony, and disappears as quickly as she arrived
- Ed successfully punches him in the face. with the metal hand too :(
- the Elrics are about to attack him as one when May Chang, the teeny tiny adorable Xingese girl looking for immortality who his semi-unwanted servant/companion picked up off the side of the road, comes flying onto the scene and easily kicks both the Elric brothers into submission
- Scar’s face at this point:
- then May uses her insane Alkahestry skills to blow a bunch of stuff up and reveals that she can also heal him with it (manga canon, in fmab he already knows by now)
and that was Scar’s insane day. the confusion must have been immense.
God I’m a sucker for characters who are so utterly loyal to someone that they’re completely unhinged. Characters who have no moral compass except their overwhelming devotion to whoever they’ve chosen to listen to. That’s the good shit

I fucking love seeing the storyboards, they’re so cool.
I especially love the ones for Silco’s breakdown scene like-
He looks so much more feral here, it’s awesome.
